Walden's Mission Statement

We, the staff, students and parents of Walden School are dedicated to the development of life-long learners. We promote academic excellence through creativity, experimentation, and problem solving while providing for individual differences. We support collaboration between Walden and the community to create the best possible caring environment for the development of the children.

Drop-Off Procedures

Students are permitted on the grounds beginning at 8:25 am, as staff are scheduled to supervise students starting at this time.

The entry doors throughout the building are locked unless a supervisor is present. Children should go to their outside line-up location unless it is indoor line up in the event of rain or temperatures below 15 degrees (with the windchill). During indoor morning line up, a staff member will be supervising the doors to allow children into the building.

Children must enter the building through the front doors beginning at 8:40 because all of the other entrances will be locked at this time.

Students will only be dismissed to a parent or legal guardian, or to emergency contacts designed in Family Access.

If your child is ill, please send an email to waldenattendance@dps109.org, use the Paperless PTO app or call the 847-945-9660, option 3 by 8:40am on the first day of absence or if your child will not return after lunch.

If you know your child will be absent in advance, complete an advance request form and turn it into the nurse prior to the date of absence.

If your child is late to school, he or she must go to the school nurse to sign in before going to class.

If parents wish to pick up homework for a child who has been absent, please call the school office to request it. Homework will be available for pick up in the school office after 3:25pm.

Recess is held outdoors every day except for rain and severe cold below 15 degrees (with the windchill). Students are encouraged to dress accordingly – with jackets, gloves, hats, scarves, boots, snow pants, etc.

Children are required to wear gym shoes for physical education class, so please keep a spare pair in your child’s locker. For very wet weather, you may want to have a spare pair of jeans and socks in the locker so your child can change into dry clothes if needed.
